Well, not being gay makes it a little more difficult to make this call but I don’t see this as being homophobic.  I mean, the guy doesn’t have to be gay to be speed walking.  Perhaps the charge of homophobic is prejudiced, considering that those who consider it being homophobic have already assumed the man is gay by his demeanor.

Now I’m sure the male speedwalkers out there may feel offended by this for many reasons including

  1. The assumption that they are all gay
  2. The assumption that they are not ‘real’ men
  3. A fellow speedwalker being shot at with a Snickers turret.

Speed walkers take to the streets and protest this commerical! On second thought, that march may just be funnier than the commercial.

First off, I apologize about the delayed post.  Things have been hectic both at home and at work, so it’s taken me a little while to get to this.  With that said, I have to say that this has been a truly life changing experience for me.  In the past week I’ve received more compliments about the way I look than I can ever remember.  I’ve realized that I’m about twice as flexible as I was 6 weeks ago (I can kick my leg over my head now!).  And as far as my physical health goes, I’ve never felt better.

To everyone who may have taken part in this experiment, or who will in the future, I appreciate your effort.  Understand that it is not in vain and you WILL see results.  They won’t be immediate for most of you, but they will hopefully last you a lifetime.

With that said, I present to you my photos from the end of Week 6.

Week 6 Weight 200 lbs.

So that’s all for now! I’ll post some random stuff up here and get started with the second public experiment the first week of August, so look out!  See ya soon!

Hey folks, new feature here on blackistindian…the single of the week! Enjoy!

We’re going to take a break from the Weekly Motivator this week.  If you want to be motivated, just move to New York:

New Yorkers have been in the throes of sticker shock since this spring when the Big Apple became the first city in the country to implement a law forcing chain restaurants to post the calorie count of each food in the same size and font as the price.

Restaurants have not exhausted their legal challenges, but the city will start fining violators up to $2,000 beginning Friday, say officials with the city’s Department of Health and Mental Hygiene.

Wow, can you just imagine if they did this where you live?  I bet you’d think twice about that muffin (a.k.a. breakfast cake) and maybe even that “fat-free” brownie.  But by this point, you already know to stay away…right?

This is about the funniest thing I’ve seen…ever.  I know its old but its worth revisting.

This is the last week of the Weight Loss experiment, and I gotta say, it’s gone pretty well.  I’ve learned a lot about myself and my body in these past few weeks and I hope you have too.  I thought it might be a good idea to share some of my most important lessons, not only to reference them in the future but hopefully to provide motivation and support to anyone else that may encounter similar experiences.

  1. Goals are helpful, but they’re not everything. What I’m trying to say is, if you have a one-track mind that only sees a goal, not only is there a possibility you’ll be heavily disappointed, but you’ll miss all the valuable lessons along the way to that goal.  This is something I learned back in Week 4 when I realized there was no way I was going to hit my initial goal for this 6-week program without changing my lifestyle in a way I had no desire to do.  What you want in life will come if you want it bad enough…enjoy the road there.  Speaking of which…
  2. Reboot When Needed. Everyone has had a failed attempt at eating better.  In fact, it happens often for me…there are just too many temptations out there for a food-lover like myself.  What is important, however, is how you deal with the situation after you’ve given in.  I have two approaches, depending on the situation.  If I begin to feel guilty about what I’m eating, I stop eating it.  I then begin the program effective immediately.  No need for dropping into crunches or any other self-inflicted punishments, just a reboot of the program.  If, however, I am not feeling bad about it, then I finish what I’m eating and enjoy every bite.  Afterwards, I officially declare that I am restarting my program, and eat better for the rest of the day.  I may adjust my other meals based off of my indulgence, but for the most part I continue as if nothing happened.  This method seems like it allows for too much cheating, but when you implement it and really hold yourself accountable, you’d be surprised as to how infrequently this occurs.  The great side effect is that you feel like you’ve accomplished something on your own accord, without the need for strict rules or punishment.
  3. Tell everyone. This is kind of my second motive for The Public Experiment.  The more people that know about me trying to lose weight, the better chance there is that I’m going to try to keep it up.  It really works too!  If I have a rough Saturday (which BBQ season has brought upon me fairly regularly these past few weeks), the only thing on my mind on Sunday is what my Monday picture will look like.  That leads to a very high chance of me going to the gym on Sunday.  So tell all your friends, start your own blog, hold a contest or any other crazy idea you can do to get it out to the world that you will lose weight.  Then get out there and do it!

So there it is.  Start of week 6!  Last week in the program (offically, I’ll definately keep it up in my own time).  Next Monday I’ll have a final photo session and compare it to Week 1.  How exciting!

Week 6 Weight 202 lbs.

P.S. You may be noticing I’m wearing pants in this picture.  Yeah, they’re new.  And a size 34!  I haven’t worn size 34 in 5 years! Woohoo!

Okay, we’re almost through with the first Public Experiment project, and it’s been a great journey for me, full of ups and downs.  We’re going to focus on the downs for today’s motivator with a great clip called Famous Failures.

Enjoy!

Here is video put together by FoxAttacks about the ongoing smear campaign against Michelle Obama. Please, don’t support Fox and their racist tactics. Enjoy the clip:

Week 5 begins and it’s really coming down to the wire.  As discussed last week, I’ve pretty much come to terms that I’m not going to reach my goal weight, and I’m still doing just fine with that idea.  I’m focusing more on long-term development, and I’ve noticed some great improvements.  For one, my toes look beautiful from up here! ;-). Seriously though, I’ve noticed a serious change in my flexibility.  When I started I couldn’t even touch my toes from a seated, straight-leg position.  I’m now able to grab a hold of them with relative ease.  I also am getting lots of compliments in my recent transformation, which goes to show even a little bit counts for a whole lot.

I hope you all had a great holiday weekend and are back at it this week.  Remember, even if you messed up a little, or a lot like me, today is a new day and we can keep going.  The mission is to build great habits for a healthy life.  Good luck this week.  Put in that extra work, we’re in the home stretch now!

Week 5 Weight 204 lbs.

p.s. sorry for the shoddy side picture, i dunno what i was thinking!
